Allow me to introduce myself. My name is John Douglass and I am the owner, operator and piano technician for JD Piano Service. I have over 35 years of experience tuning pianos, having learned the trade from my father at a young age and working in the family business; Douglass Pianos since I was a teenager. My experience comes not only from working on pianos but also from retail sales presentations and relationships with many piano manufacturers. I've spent nearly as many years selling pianos as I have tuning and fixing them. This gives me a perspective and wide-ranging knowledge of the entire piano industry that is unique compared to most other piano technicians.
My family has been involved in pianos since 1920. In addition to tuning pianos in our customer's homes, working with my father at Douglass Pianos provided me with invaluable experience working on many different brands both new and used. From preparing brand new pianos right out of the box to re-conditioning older ones I was able to gain many years of hands-on experience working on pianos of every brand, size, type and state of condition. I've been around pianos all my life and looking back, I've probably sat down to tune a piano over 10,000 times in my lifetime!
A nationwide downward trend in piano sales in recent years prompted my decision in 2007 to leave the retail end and focus my attention on owning and operating my own piano tuning and service business. I have amassed a loyal list of clients and friends who have purchased pianos from my family and continue to use my tuning services year after year. So for my regular tuning customers, not much has changed other than a renewed focus and enthusiasm to provide you with the best possible service. I also have greater flexibility in scheduling since I am no longer putting in the hours like I used to at the family piano store.
